DESCRIPTION

Picklex®20 is a ferrous and non-ferrous metal surface cleaner, 100% rust converter, rust inhibitor, and protective coating. It removes mill oil, dust, surface rust, and white rust, while providing a conversion coating in 1 treatment. It's the ultimate solution to your metal surface preparation and pre-treatment needs.

Picklex®20 is Environmentally Safe, Non-Toxic, Non-Flammable, Non-Hazardous and Water Soluble, and Does Not Fall Under Any EPA, OSHA or DOT Regulation.

PERFORMANCE

Picklex®20 saves a lot of time, labor, and costs, and prepares the metal surface for painting and welding, providing a long-term rust protection. It is applied by spraying and brushing.

Different types of color changes can be noticed on the metal surface after application of Picklex®20. These changes vary according to the amount of rust converted (ranges from a clear coating for brand new/bare metal, light gray for micro-rust and light surface rust, to a dark gray or light black for heavy deep rust or on mill scale). This color change will not have any effect on the paint color. It provides a conversion coating for a very long term indoor storage (in terms of years).

Picklex®20 Metal Treatment for Painting / Powder Coating

By spraying/brushing Picklex® 20 on steel, aluminum or galvanized steel, it will remove mill oil (heavy oil or grease has to be removed separately), clean the surface by removing dust, surface rust including white rust, convert weld/laser scale and provide a conversion coating for better bonding. Wipe off or blow off the excess chemical from the surface and air dry. After complete drying, the coating will provide a very long term rust protection if stored indoors. Priming, liquid painting, powder coating can be performed on the coated surface right after complete drying. Provides excellent bonding and corrosion resistance.   

The above one-step process eliminates the following steps:

a) Solvent cleaning
b) Blasting or sanding to remove rust, weld/laser scale
c) Phosphating or any other pre-treatment
d) Washing, drying

Picklex®20 Metal Treatment for Welding

Picklex® 20 prepares the metal surface by cleaning mill oil (heavy oil or grease has to be removed separately), dust, surface rust and provide conversion coating at the same time. Welding can be performed on the Picklex® 20 coating after complete drying (air drying or heat drying). Picklex® 20 increases the weld strength considerably. For hot rolled steel with mill scale, Picklex® 20 completely converts the mill scale to a conversion coating over which welding can be performed (the weld strength will still be higher than the welding performed after removing the mill scale completely, as done in the conventional process). Picklex® 20 prepares the surface rust/contamination free & stops the oxidation and therefore no weld spatter forms. After welding is completed, spraying Picklex® 20 on the hot weld will reduce heat scaling, provide a protective coating on the weld for rust protection and prepare the weld surface for better bonding. Picklex® 20 provides long term rust protection underneath the weld on metal surface as well as over the weld. Picklex® 20 does not cause hydrogen embrittlement and therefore the chances of weld failure are negligible.

The above one-step process eliminates the following steps:

a) Remove mill oil, surface rust
b) Remove mill scale & clean
c) Clean weld spatters
d) Remove weld scale

Lab Tests on Picklex®20 Rust Converter/Inhibitor with Very Long-Term Rust Protection An Award-Winning Product Testing and Approval–Painting Test Sample steel panels (with surface rust), treated with Picklex®20 and painted with automotive paint, have been tested for over 1540 hours of salt spray (ASTM B-117 specification), with minimum surface preparation, eliminating lot of labor, time, and cost for surface preparation before painting. Welding Tests–General Motors Corp.  Spot welding performed on 30 pieces of steel steering parts, showed 60% increased weld strength consistently. PSI, Inc. (Previously known as Pittsburgh Testing Lab) Fillet welding on cold, rolled steel showed 43% increase in weld strength. Also, welding performed on mill scale (hot, rolled steel) after applying Picklex®20 showed 8% increase in weld strength, as compared to welding performed on bare metal surfaces by the standard AWS process.
